referral partners
We work with other local organisations to make sure:
People who need the food bank are referred to us
People who visit the food bank are also receiving wider support to address the root causes of crisis or poverty in their lives.
We operate a voucher model, meaning that only people with a voucher are able to access our food provision.
Voucher codes are distributed by our referral partners, who must verify that the person they are supporting is in a state of food poverty or crisis - meaning they do not have, and are unable to afford, food or household items for themselves and those in their care. Voucher codes are intended to relieve immediate hunger and should be used within three days.
As part of this process, partners should also ensure that appropriate support to overcome the drivers of crisis or poverty is in place. We offer further signposting and support to ensure people have access to relevant services and organisations to help them to change the circumstances that led to hunger, and break cycles of poverty.
Work with us for a hunger-free Hackney
We can only accept referrals for people who live in the London Borough of Hackney. If you are working with someone from a different borough, please refer to the local provision in that borough.
If you are working with someone who is unable to attend the food bank in person, they can nominate someone to attend on their behalf (such as a trusted friend, family member or support worker). As the referring organisation, you must tell us first if this is the case by contacting help@hackneyfoodbank.org. If this is not possible, you can contact us here before 12pm to arrange a home delivery.
